It’s summertime, which means sunshine, warmer temperatures, and humidity will be with us until fall. If you’re getting married this summer, next summer, or your wedding’s taking place somewhere warm, you may be concerned about your wedding day makeup—specifically, the likelihood of sweating it off.
At Stacie Ford Beauty Co., our top priorities are always 1) making sure you’re happy on your wedding day and 2) creating a flawless, stunning makeup look that lasts all day and night, wherever you are. To accomplish those goals, we use a variety of products, and we tailor our choices to align with your skin type, tone, and desired look. On top of that, we always come prepared for all possible/potential weather conditions. That said, we do have our tried-and-true favorites that we come back to time and time again when it’s hot out. I’m talking about products that stand the test of heat and humidity—you won’t sweat them off, and they’re easy to touch-up.
Without further delay, here they are—my top makeup products for summertime, part one of two!
The Tatcha Water Cream is the perfect moisturizer for humid days. It’s lightweight (not heavy) and totally melts into the skin, plus it layers beautifully under makeup. This moisturizer is good for oily skin and hot, humid weather, because it doesn’t leave a film or residue behind. I use this with my clients all the time, and I use it for my own makeup looks…we all love it!
I’m a huge proponent of always using a primer, and the Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Primer extends makeup very, very well. I love that it pairs nicely with whatever products I’m using, and that it performs well on all skin textures. This primer also controls shine and has a pore-blurring effect, which means even if you start sweating, it’s going to hold up.
As a makeup artist, I’ve tried a million foundations, and the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation is truly elite. It’s a full coverage, matte foundation, but you can extend it out where you need to (meaning you can make it lighter coverage). To do that, just work in small sections of your face, and blend it out to your desired coverage. You can even add a bit of primer to it and voila, you have a tinted moisturizer! This foundation doesn’t separate at all—it stays in place, it’s oil-free and oil-controlling. It gives great coverage but you can still see skin underneath, and I have to say, the shade range is impeccable. Even when you’re dealing with humid, 90-degree weather, this product isn’t going anywhere. Top it with a little powder on top, and you’re good to go. It’s a holy grail for summer makeup.
If you’re more of a foundation stick type of person, the Merit Beauty The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick is the pick for you. This little stick is more on the matte side, but it blends really well and Merit’s shade range is great, too. If you’re looking for lighter coverage, this Complexion Stick is perfect, because it’s blendable and easy to retouch, especially if you have unwanted blemishes. Even though it’s light, the coverage lasts forever, and I love how easy they are to pack for travel!
This is the concealer I always keep in my kit—it definitely wins best all-around pick! The Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer is extremely smooth and matte, and it doesn’t crease. I love that it’s full coverage, but still lightweight, and that it lasts forever, no matter the weather.
The On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray from Patrick Starr’s brand One Size Beauty is fantastic. Nothing is getting through this spray—no sweat, no tears. It’s waterproof, transfer-proof, and smudge-proof, so it keeps your makeup locked and loaded all day!
In terms of applying it, though, I tend not to spray it directly on the skin. Instead, I spray it on a beauty blender once I’ve finished the rest of the makeup application, and then I tap the beauty blender on the skin lightly. This keeps the skin from getting very wet and allows you to get a much more even application.
Another product I love to use for setting the face is the Face Defender from Mally Beauty. It’s basically a silicone gel and it actually helps with oil absorption. To apply it, I use the same technique as I do with the setting spray—I use a fresh beauty blender and press the product into the skin. It’s a good product for textured skin and for humid days; you can get rid of oil and shine while still maintaining a subtle skin glow!
The Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder is an ideal powder to use if you’re going to be touching up your makeup yourself. It doesn’t cake at all, and you only need a little bit!
Most people use either a liquid or pencil eyeliner, so I’ve included my favorite of both!
For liquid eyeliner, my pick is the Fenty Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner. It’s pigmented, smudge proof, so it holds up through tears, sweat, whatever you’ve got! Plus, it has a really nice fine and flexible tip on it. My go-to color is called “Cuz I’m Black.” It’s the perfect liquid liner.
As for pencil eyeliner, the Benefit BADgal Waterproof Eyeliner is the best. Like the name states, it’s waterproof, and it goes on super smoothly, which is what you want for any eyeliner. It glides easily over eyeshadows, and because it’s waterproof, you can even use it on your waterline.
